Service/Philanthropy

As the sisters of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, we take pride in our involvement in both local and international charities. We hold various events throughout the year to raise money for our two main charities, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Canuck Place. CASA is our international philanthropy, meaning that every Kappa Alpha Theta chapter contributes to the worthy foundation. It is an American organization that trains volunteers to speak on behalf of abused or neglected children in court. The Thetas hold their highly popular monthly pancake breakfasts called “Cakes for CASA” to benefit the foundation. Here, we deliver fully prepared breakfasts to the neighboring Fraternity houses, and they are always a hit! We also give out breakfasts in our Chapter room. This philanthropy event is not only available to members of the Greek system, but also to others in the University. In addition, we also hold various smaller events such as our “Cupcakes for CASA” bake sale.
Beta Upsilon’s local philanthropy organization is Canuck Place, which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is world renowned as a leader in pediatric palliative care for children with life-threatening illness. This year, in order to raise money for Canuck Place, we Thetas hold our annual Rowdy Rodeo Rampage! This western-themed carnival includes hot dog and hamburger eating competitions, a live auction, and a Bungee Bull attraction! Thetas also actively participate in other philanthropy events held by other fraternities and sororities in the Greek System.
