Service/Philanthropy

Philanthropy is one of the most important aspects of being in a sorority. Theta places great emphasis on working for charitable organizations. We hold various events throughout the year to raise money for our two main charities, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Canuck Place.Court Appointed Special AdvocatesCASA is our international philanthropy, meaning that every Kappa Alpha Theta chapter contributes to the worthy foundation. It is an American organization that trains volunteers to speak on behalf of abused or neglected children in court. The volunteers help the children speed through the court system, and make sure that the child’s best interests are taken to heart to provide the best possible future for them. The Thetas hold their famous monthly pancake breakfasts called “Cakes for Casa” to benefit the foundation. Here, we deliver fully prepared breakfasts to the neighboring Fraternity houses, and they are always a hit! We also hold various smaller events such as our “Cupcakes for Casa” bake sale that has helped raise money this year as wellCanuck PlaceCanuck Place is a local organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Beta Upsilon chapter has taken it on as our local philanthropy. Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is world renown as a leader in pediatric palliative care for children with life-threatening illness. Canuck Place provides end of life care, pain and symptom management and respite care for children and their families when hospital care can no longer meet their needs. This year, the Thetas held their first annual Rowdy Rodeo Rampage! This western-themed carnival included hot dog and hamburger eating competitions, putting all of the Fraternities head-to-head in competition, a live auction, and a Bungee Bull attraction! The Greek system came out in full force, despite the rain storm, guaranteeing that this event will become a yearly occurrence.
